A BRIGHTER FUTURE

Imagine a world where people can safely and fully navigate their communities. Where driving and community mobility enable life, not stop it.

Who We Are

Activities like driving a car, taking the bus, or forms of active transportation such as biking, walking, or using a wheelchair enable us to participate in our communities. However, an overwhelming number of motor vehicle collisions, inadequate public transportation options and infrastructure, as well as other personal, social and environmental conditions compromise the health and well-being of individuals and communities across the world.

The i-Mobile Driving Research Lab exists to uncover the fitness to drive, driving performance, active transportation, and community mobility challenges experienced by at-risk populations across the life span; and develop collaborative and innovative solutions to overcome them. By integrating multiple methods of inquiry and through an occupational lens, the i-Mobile Driving Research Lab dares to imagine a world where driving and community mobility enable life, not restrict it.

THE PILLARS OF OUR RESEARCH

AT-RISK

DRIVERS ACROSS

THE LIFE SPAN

AT-RISK

DRIVERS ACROSS

THE LIFE SPAN

We aim to uncover the personal, societal, and environmental conditions that impact a person's access to driving and community mobility, including their fitness to drive and driving performance; and the challenges and barriers experienced by vulnerable populations such as youth, shift workers, individuals with neurological conditions, and many others.

INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACHES TO COMMUNITY MOBILITY

INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACHES TO COMMUNITY MOBILITY

Engaging key stakeholders in collaborative efforts, we take an occupational lens to understand, question, and modify current social and cultural approaches to community mobility, including: who is protected by current infrastructures, and in which ways social and physical infrastructure condition driving and community mobility.

INJURY PREVENTION & COMMUNITY MOBILITY INTERVENTIONS

From technology-based interventions to improve driving performance, to risk-awareness and injury prevention iniatives, our lab seeks to develop, evaluate, and implement cutting-edge interventions to improve the driving, active transportation, and community mobility of at-risk populations.
